Zuma’s Rescue Ranch has provided Horse Rescue for horses headed to slaughter since 2005. The team combines this effort with the rescuing of the displaced children in foster care or worse yet, homeless children. By paring these two unlikely survivors they begin to heal one and other through the guidance of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. The 146 acre facility is a peaceful setting and is conveniently located in Littleton, Colorado which promotes serenity for all who enter.
There are approximately 1.3 million homeless children in the U.S. Five hundred thousand of those children are under the age of five. Add to that the tens of thousands of children in foster care system and you have a very deep sea of broken spirits in need of therapy to recover. The foster care program in the United States is overburdened. There are not enough programs promoting our children’s needs. The traditional therapies currently in use are not as successful as the equine programs used at Zuma’s Rescue Ranch. Children blossom with the presence of a horse.
