Zuma’s Volunteer Of The Month

Meet Dan Schlachtenhaufen, Zuma’s volunteer of the month for February.

Volunteer Of The Month of February

Dan only started volunteering at Zuma’s in late January and since that time he has consistently volunteered between 20 to 25 hours a week.  No job is too difficult for Dan, he cleans paddocks/pastures and the stalls.  He even feeds breakfast and lunch to our herd and is by far the earliest volunteer to arrive at the ranch at 7:30am.
Due to Dan’s dedication he has learned all about the horses and knows them all by name.
Zuma’s Rescue Ranch is very lucky to have Dan and all our other volunteers, we couldn’t do this without you all.

Thank you to all the Zuma’s volunteers and congratulations Dan!

Pictures of the herd to benefit Zuma’s Rescue Ranch

Like this? Come to our silent auction on July 24, 2009 and bid on this and several other photos of the horses at Zuma’s Rescue Ranch.

This image of Princess MaryLegs with one of her favorite people (Amanda), has obviously been altered. I did this because I wanted to show a visual representation of what we all know deep within–that there is love projected from the hearts of these animals. They are special–and the children in our program are not the only ones who know that. It is through their experiences with these horses than the kids at Zuma’s learn valuable life lessons that allow them to overcome their obstacles. Come to our Open House on July 24th to learn more.

Zuma’s Rescue Ranch presents Michale Blake, Author of Dances with Wolves July, 24th 4-9pm in Colorado

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 06, 2009 – “Enchanted Summers Eve” presented by Zuma’s Rescue Ranch

Featuring Michael Blake – Author of Academy Award Winning “Dances with Wolves”

Join us for an enchanted evening of music, wine, catered delights, art, and horse drawn carriage rides all benefiting Zuma’s Rescue Ranch.

Come out in support of horses and children.

Our children in foster care are falling through the cracks in life, we currently allow 80% of Colorado’s 6000 foster children to end up homeless or in prison within two years of leaving the foster care system. This we believe is largely due to the failing therapy currently available. At present time we do not provide therapy to the families involved in the foster care system, we only treat the children. We place children in strangers’ homes and enroll them into “talk therapy” with a ultimate goal of re-uniting them with their families. An 80% failure rate says the system is broken and in need of community support. If we don’t find a better approach to the problem we will continue this cycle of Welfare, Foster Care, Prison.

Zuma’s has developed a program that provides experiential therapies for the children, their families and the foster parents. This therapy incorporates the use of horses rescued from peril as therapy partners for the children and their families.

This therapy program has been working in a “pilot” phase since March of 2009 and has seen tremendous success in healing the closed, broken minds and hearts of these children. A recent quote from a therapist as Zuma’s, “I get more out of these kids in one hour than I get in months of traditional therapy”. The program just works. It needs to become available to all children in need, but in order for that to happen Zuma’s needs funding.

The programs currently exist now only from the sponsorship of Founders, Jodi and Paul Messenich.

Jodi and Paul have been rescuing horses from terrible circumstances since 2004 and have recently added the Equine Assisted Psychotherapy piece to their mission. Zuma’s Rescue Ranch is a registered 501C3 non-profit charity dedicated to changing the lives of children and horses in need.

This Event July 24th 200 4:00-9:00 pm is a fun way to get to know about our programs, meet our board members and support the children and horses of Zuma’s.

In addition to the book signing with Michael Blake we are having a silent auction with some wonderful items, Richter-Scale will be providing our sound/lighting and serendipity catering will be preparing a wonderful menu for you.

Don’t miss this special evening, come on out enjoy some great food, listen to some wonderful music and go for a ride in a horse drawn carriage. All for a great cause!

Please RSVP 303-346-7493 and have a look at our website for more details.
