Witnessing this spectacle, humans were obviously in awe not only because of the supreme intelligence and precise timing that these elephants sensed about Lawrence ’s passing, but also because of the profound memory and emotion the beloved animals evoked in such an organized way:

Walking slowly – for days – Making their way in a solemn one-by-one queue from their habitat to his house.

So, how after Anthony’s death, did the reserve’s elephants — grazing miles away in distant parts of the park — know? “A good man died suddenly,” says Rabbi Leila Gal Berner, Ph.D., “and from miles and miles away, two herds of elephants, sensing that they had lost a beloved human friend, moved in a solemn, almost ‘funereal’ procession to make a call on the bereaved family at the deceased man’s home.”

“If there ever were a time, when we can truly sense the wondrous ‘interconnectedness of all beings,’ it is when we reflect on the elephants of Thula Thula. A man’s heart’s stops, and hundreds of elephants’ hearts are grieving. This man’s oh-so-abundantly loving heart offered healing to these elephants, and now, they came to pay loving homage to their friend.”

Lawrence’s wife, Francoise, was especially touched, knowing that the elephants had not been to his house prior to that day for well over 3 years! But yet they knew where they were going.

The elephants obviously wanted to pay their deep respects, honoring their friend who’d saved their lives – so much respect that they stayed for 2 days 2 nights without eating anything.

Then one morning, they left, making their long journey back!

Watch Jeffrey Smith interviewed on Thom Hartmann’s The Big Picture.

Watch the complete interview : [Watch the Interview]

Doctors Prescribe Non-GMO Diets; Remarkable Recoveries Result

Now that thousands of doctors are telling patients to stop eating GMOs, the reports are flooding in about a wide variety of symptoms that improve or just go away. Allergies, asthma, weight problems, serious digestive disorders, arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and anxiety, are just some of the issues that respond. Internist Emily Lindner, MD, says, “I see results instantaneously in people who have foggy thinking and people who have gut symptoms like bloating, gas, irritation. In terms of allergies, it might take two to five days. In terms of depression, it starts to lift almost instantaneously. It takes from a day, to certainly within two weeks.” Full results, she says, usually take about four to six weeks. Dr. Lindner doesn’t just eliminate GMOs in her dietary regimen, but that, she says, is the most critical component.

Read the stories from patients who describe their dramatic recoveries within days, in Jeffrey Smith’s new article in Vitality Magazine. What is particularly significant is that the same symptoms that get better in humans are those that improve in livestock, pets, and lab amimals when put on a non-GMO diet (or compared to those on a GMO diet). And they are the same disorders on the rise in the US population since GMOs were introduced.

Read more about the harm of GMOs and patient success stories: [Read the Article]

GMOs Increased US Pesticide Use By More than Half a Billion Pounds

A study published in June by Dr. Charles Benbrook, PhD, of the Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources at Washington State University shreds agriculture giants’ claims that GM crops reduce pesticide use. While the claims that the use of GM seeds provides benefits to farmers and the consumer often appear in proprietary surveys or papers lacking significant data, Dr. Benbrook’s study is data-driven and complete with contextual analysis. In addition to showing that GM herbicide tolerant crops increase herbicide use by about 527 million pounds in 16 years, Benbrook exposes the myth of reduced insecticide use by the Bt corn and cotton crops. Although use of these crops, which have a built-in toxic pesticide, have reduced the use of chemical sprays by about 124 million pounds over 16 years, the amount of pesticide that the crops themselves produce is at least double the amount displaced, and for some varieties, 13 times the amount.

Read more of Dr. Benbrook’s raw data and GM Watch analysis: [Read the Article]

“Monsanto Rider” Snuck into 2012 Farm Bill Includes Big Giveaways and Reduces Oversight

Intense lobbying on Capitol Hill by agriculture giants seems to have paid off in the form of exemptions, giveaways and deregulations included in the Farm Bill approved by the House of Representatives Agriculture Committee. A provision, widely deemed the “Monsanto Rider,” deconstructs the already insufficient regulations restricting new genetically engineered crops while creating new environmental loopholes and reducing the time frame the USDA has to study and approve applications for new GMOs. Another rider also disables the ability of courts to stop the introduction or sale of GMOs, while the appeal process is underway. This amendment to override the courts’ jurisdiction demonstrates the outrageous extent of Monsanto’s influence – they seek to disable the US balance of powers between the three branches of government, tipping the scales in favor of GMOs at any cost.

The Senate passed its own version of the Farm Bill and should the House bill pass as proposed, the two legislative bodies would have to reconcile differences in language. In the meantime, Representative Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) has introduced an amendment to kill the rider with support from groups such as the Organic Consumers Association, Center for Food Safety and the Alliance for Natural Health USA.

As of Friday, July 20, the House had not scheduled a vote on the 2012 Farm Bill which is needed to replace the legislation which expires at the end of the year. Plenty of time is available for additional lobbying on both sides and with Monsanto tossing in $1.4 million in just the first three months of this year, the massive company clearly sees a benefit to its bottom from the money spent in Washington.

I am writing to urge you to support an amendment being offered by
Representative Jim Moran that will prevent our tax dollars from being used
to inspect foreign-owned horse slaughter facilities. You voted for a
similar amendment approved by the Committee to the FY12 Agriculture
Appropriations bill.

On the FY06 Agriculture Appropriations bill, Representatives John Sweeney
(R-NY), John Spratt (D-SC), and Ed Whitfield (R-KY) offered an amendment
to eliminate federal funding for the inspection of horsemeat˜an inspection
that would be required if horses are to be slaughtered for human
consumption. A similar amendment will again be offered by Representative
Jim Moran (D-VA) in the House Appropriations Committee during its
consideration of the FY13 Agriculture Appropriations bill.

Funding federal inspection of horse slaughter plants is fiscally
irresponsible. Such funding benefits foreign corporations˜which deal in
horsemeat for consumption by wealthy gourmands overseas˜at the expense of
American taxpayers and the size of the federal deficit. Precious federal
dollars can be put to better use by funding worthy domestic programs,
including those programs that ensure the safety of food actually consumed
in this country.

If a horse slaughter plant were to open in the United States, the plant
would be able to kill horses transported across state lines, including
horses from states strongly opposed to horse slaughter. Clearly, a state
should have the right to protect its own horses from slaughter.

Live horses benefit the U.S. economy. The horse industry brings billions
of dollars to the U.S. economy each year. While selling a 5-year-old horse
to slaughter might bring $50 to a killer buyer and more to the foreign
owner of the slaughter plant, keeping that horse alive and in the local
economy will bring far greater return for years to come in income and job
growth.

Horses sent to slaughter are most often healthy and robust, not
“unwanted.” The USDA estimates that 92.3 percent of the horses being sent
to slaughter are physically sound and can continue to be productive
animals. They are not old or infirm as some slaughter proponents want us
to believe.

American horsemeat poses a serious risk to human health. Horses in the
United States are not raised as food animals, and according to a recent
Food and Chemical Toxicology report, substances routinely given to
American horses have dangerous effects in humans. If federally funded
inspections were to begin, not only would taxpayer dollars be needed to
inspect these facilities, but additional funding would be required to
enforce transport regulations and increased food safety testing as
required by new European Union mandates.

Despite claims made by horse slaughterhouse lobbyists, the closure of the
horse slaughter plants in the United States has not led to an increase in
“unwanted” horses. Approximately 100,000 American horses are exported to
Mexico and Canada for slaughter each year˜the same number of American
horses who were slaughtered when U.S.-based plants were in operation. Our
horses are simply being hauled to slaughter locations outside of the
country.

Slaughter is not humane euthanasia. The average cost to humanely euthanize
a horse by a licensed veterinarian is $225, roughly the same cost that it
takes to feed and shelter a horse for one month. Properly euthanizing a
horse is not cost-prohibitive and is what the vast majority of Americans
choose to do with their horses at the end of their lives.

I respectfully request that you once again support language in the FY13
Agriculture Appropriations bill to defund horse slaughter inspections.
This language has effectively curtailed the establishment and operation of
cruel horse slaughter plants in the United States. As a constituent, I
look forward to hearing from you on this issue. Thank you for your
consideration.

Upon arriving to this magical place full of walking paths and multiple goat pastures, we met 20+ Nigerian Dwarf goats and one Nigerian/Nubian cross.

Blown away at the beauty and care in constructing the perfect goat haven, worrying immediately that our space could never match the beauty of their current home. None the less the owner was needing to reduce his head count and the kids at Zuma’s could really benefit from the cute little goats.

We planned on taking three of the herd to live at Zuma’s just 8 miles north of their current home, the plans for mobile goat pens began. The following week we constructed portable pens that could move so grazing was always plentiful. The goats then moved to front and center at Zuma’s, becoming 2nd in line to Daisy Duke our Pot Belly pig as a kid favorite.

Just a short two weeks into our goat adventure, Nod our smallest little goat took ill, his little body was quivering and he seemed miserable. What to do, we know little of goat health and needed a quick reference, google of course. After reading the possible causes for the quivering Nod was then loaded into the back seat of the Toyota Tacoma AKA goat mobile.

An x-ray revealed that Nod to be impacted from rectum to intestine, IV fluides would be necessary to soften and remove the impaction. After 8 hours in the vet clinic and no relief, they inserted a tube into Nods tiny throat and oil was administered to aid in softening the mass. We too Nod back to Zuma’s and spent the night in the tack room with him monitoring his progress.

The next morning, poor Nod was still in tremendous pain, and unable to pass and fecal matter, off to the vets office to get more fluids and add calcium to the drip because Nod had a low calcium blood count . This seemed to help little Nod shiver less and begin passing some fecal matter. We thought we had rectified the problem poor Nod was having until pain and un able it appeared to urinate. The urine was just dripping out, back to google to learn that a urinary tract infection or possible stone can predicate an impaction.

Back to the vet to see if a catheter could remove the urinary blockage, with another X-ray we could see that Nod indeed had a full bladder, and the impaction had cleared. The male goat anatomy presents great difficulty in using a catheter, chances were looking grim but we pressed on.

Nod must be meant to be with Zuma’s for a long time, mid procedure, the stones were felt and manually manipulated out, with a strong release of urine, many tiny stones and the one larger culprit were release and no catheter was necessary. The hemostat used to remove the penis from the sheath aided in the stone being dislodged.

Stones are developed over long periods of time, thus his previous diet being un know was most likley a contributing factor additionally goats that are whethered before 6 months of age stand a great risk of developing stones. To protect Nod and our other wethered goat Tiny Tim we have begun a regemin of Amonnium Chloride pills one week out of every month to prevent the formation of future stones.

It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you’ll have to call an ambulance. In each case it’s the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.”

She continued, “and that’s the way it is with stress. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won’t be able to carry on.”

“As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we’re refreshed, we can carry on with the burden – holding stress longer and better each time practiced. So, as early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night…. pick them up tomorrow. Whatever burdens you’re carrying now, put them down for a moment. Relax, pick them up later after you’ve rested. Life is short. Enjoy it and the now ‘supposed’ stress that you’ve conquered!”
